Gluing the Scarrfs

Laying out the planks ready for gluing
Now it is time to turn the 20 X 8ft planks in to 10 X 16ft planks. We do this by gluing the Scarrfs joints. Before you can Glue the planks together you need to lay it out. I had to make a temporary work bench 16ft long and 4ft wide so that I could lay them all out flat. This also meant that I did not have to work on the floor, another good reason for the work bench. I spent a whole night laying out the planks and then another night checking to make sure that they were all correct.

I had never used epoxy before so it was a bit nerve racking. I had a friend come around to help me move everything in to place while I had epoxy on my fingers. Once everything was covered in epoxy we clamped ever thing to the bench so it had no way of moving while the epoxy dried. I used baking paper to make sure that the planks did not stick to the bench and it worked a treat. Then it was just a matter of waiting for the epoxy to dry.
